Lagbaja out with Africano

*The search for a name for Lagbaja’s kind of music finally came to a close early in the week as the masked one, in a crowded press conference at the Muson Centre in Lagos, said that he had found a name for his kind of music. The occasion saw the release of his twelve-track CD titled “Africano the mother of groove”.

*Lagbaja said that after waiting unsuccessfully for journalists to name his kind of music, like someone gave Nollywood to the film industry in Nigeria, he decided to take the bull by the horns. Lagbaja in choosing the name said he wanted something that would catch the essence of his vision. The new dispensation could be an indication that his music will centre on Yoruba and Nigerian rhythms, though it may later proceed to other parts of Africa. He said he discovered that the most important thing in his music was the use of the drums.
